Empathy is a fundamental principle in our operations. We recognize the importance of understanding the challenges faced by grassroots people and developing solutions that address their specific needs.

I get to achieve my dreams and help my family too

Ebubechi AdogaMentee

I finished secondary school but wasn’t able to afford to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board exams, JAMB. I joined KYI and started to attend the weekly mentorship classes where I learnt how to make footwear. KYI gave me the opportunity to learn a free skill in three months. I wish to go back to school, so from making footwear, I can save up money for school while also helping my family.

KYI helped me believe in myself again

Peace Mercy OgbangbaMentee

I lived and schooled in my village, Ndubia Ezenyimegu, but due to poverty I had no way to further to university. I came into Abakaliki city through my family friend who engaged me as a thrift collector earning very little money monthly, hardly enough to feed. I found myself amidst the risks of being sexually assaulted severally, then I met Barrister Melva Uguru in her office and talked with her. I got into the KYI mentorship program where I was trained in shoemaking skills for 6months, the KYI mentors helped me sell some of my shoes to purchase some tools for my shoe making business. I also received academic coaching at the center. Today, I am a student of Dental Therapy at the Federal college of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu State, studying under the full scholarship program of Kachem Young Initiative. I am grateful for the guidance, support and opportunities I continue to receive as a KYI mentee.
